Haitian Food

Similar to most of the foods in the Caribbean, Haitian food consists of many origins with a few differences. Haitian food is influenced by French, African, and Spanish foods with Taino roots.
Typical meals include imported rice, local vegetables, and meats native to the island. Meals tend to be mildly spicy with the use of scotch bonnet peppers. Most dishes start with a pesto base, which consist of several different types of herbs, peppers, and spices. Like all cultures Haitian cuisine has unique soups, pastries, and various dishes that bring some interest to the mundane dishes eaten daily in our country.

Authentic Haitian food.

We have Haitian beet salad, Haitian shrimp, Haitian patties. Delicious!

Haitian Beet Salad

If you have never had beets in your potato salad, then you have been missing out big time. Haitian beet salad has a flavor that will have you coming back for second and third servings. When people first see this pink/purple-ish meal looks unnatural, but after the first bite it’s hard going back to boring potato salad.

Haitian Shrimp

Haitian Shrimp in creole sauce is a common dish served mainly near the costal cities of Haiti. Ingredients in the dish vary from village to village, but is always the same at its base. The meal goes great any rice, plantains or corn meal. Here’s our version.

Haitian Patties

Haitian Patties are the quintessential street food in Haiti. The pastry typically contains various meats such as beef, chicken, pork and fish. Haitian patties are also served as appetizers at various events and is a must have when trying out Haitian food.
